SOFF PROJECT TECHNICAL COORDINATION COMMITTEE IN TANZANIA CONVENES FOR ITS FOURTH MEETING TO DELIBERATE ON PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

The Fourth Meeting of the SOFF Project Technical Coordination Committee (PTCC-4) was successfully held on 22nd January, 2026 at the Gerwill Hotel in Dodoma - Tanzania bringing together PTCC Members to deliberate on project documents for the Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting which has been planned to take place in February, 2026. The meeting was co-Chaired by the PTCC Co-Chairs from Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP): Dr. Pascal Waniha (from TMA) who is the Director of Infrastructure and Technical Services at TMA and Vice President of the WMO Commission for Observation, Infrastructure and Information System (INFCOM) and SOFF project Coordinator at TMA. ; and Dr. Abbas Kitogo, PTCC Co-Chair from UNDP.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Waniha re-iterated the role of PTCC Members is to spearhead the goal of SOFF implementation in the United Republic of Tanzania which aims to make Tanzania to be GBON compliant by the end of 2026. This SOFF Goal is inline with the country’s strong commitment to comply with international standards in weather and climate services value chain, including weather data collection, data sharing, data processing and weather forecasting. Achieving full GBON compliance will not only contribute to improve weather forecasts at global level, but will significantly enhance Tanzania’s capabilities in weather forecasting, early warning services and climate services as the whole.

The PTCC deliberated on the report on the status of SOFF project implementation in Tanzania, , financial reports, and the workplan for 2026. The finalized documents will be tabled at the third meeting of SOFF PSC. The SOFF project in Tanzania in Tanzania is implemented by Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI).
